How To Change The Drill Bit In The SCM Cyflex f900 CNC Router
Removing The Drill Bit
In this video you will learn how to:
- Remove the drill bits in the machine
Detailed instructions below the video
Detailed Steps
- (On the screen) So the first thing that we need to do is to get out of the programs and get into the screen that we need to.
- We are going to click the RED button here on the screen and the dialogue box comes up asking whether you want to interrupt. Click on Yes. Then click on the MDI tab (on screen).
- (On the machine) The things that we want to do are the Pusher up here needs to be moved down (in order to get access to the bottom of the Drills) and the Clamp needs to be closed.
- The Head here is the third thing that needs to be moved up. In order to do that, the Clamp has to be closed. It will not move up without the Clamp closed.
- (Back to the screen) While we are in the MDI mode we’ve got three icons on the left. The bottom icon is the one we need to check out first. And these are the Pusher (icons) right here. The right Pusher icon is to raise the Pusher up and the left one is to lower it down. In order to lower it down, what we got to do is highlight it (make sure it’s green). Then come down to this button here and click on it that will move the Pusher down.
- The second thing that we need to do is to close the Clamp. The Clamp icon is up here, and then again we’re gonna just click on that to highlight it, and click this button here. That closes the Clamp (it’s kinda hard to see), but it closes the Clamp.
- The next thing that we need to do is move the Head up, so that we can gain access to the bottom of the Drills.
- (On the screen) First we need to click on the manual mode tab up (located on top of the screen). So right now we’re on Y (that’s selected). Select Z, and you can see that the highlight changes. So that’s Y and Plus is up. Now we can move the head up. We need to move the head up so that we can get to it from the back panel.
- (Machine) Ok, so what you can see here is, we’ve got access to all the drill bits. So this is number one right here. Two, three, four, and five. This is bit number six; seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, and twelve.
- The bit that we’re going to change is number eight, which is the 35mm bit. The 8s and this 35 should be changed at the same time (I believe). In order to make it easier to get to that bit, we’re going to pull that bit out. Right now it’s pretty hard to get to it. So in order to do that, we go back around to the front of the screen.
- (Back to the screen) And we have to go back to the MDI mode. The second icon controls the bits and things like that. So there’s a low icon right here that shows the Drill bits coming down, click on it and make sure it’s highlighted. Then we need to do in here is put number “8” in there, because that’s the bit that we want to have come down. And then we come down here and click the Cycle button. And that’s supposed to push the bit out.
- (Machine) So now we are going to come down here and you can see here that the Bit number 8 has popped out. So now that it’s popped out, we have easy access to the Allen screws. So, we’re going to take this out and replace it with the right bit.
Installing A New Drill Bit
In this video you will learn how to:
- Put the drill bit in
Detailed instructions below the video
Detailed Steps
- Alright, so we are going to put the bit in. And the bit has got a
fat spot on it at the back. Thefat spot should be right where the Allen screws are. It needs to be pushed all the way down to the stop. - Make sure you blow this out, make sure there’s no dust in there. And you hear the metal when you push it up against that. Tighten those up and the screws should go up against the fat spot on the bit. Tighten with the long end of the Allen wrench first and then do it with the short end, so you get a little more leverage on it. It’s important to make sure that the screws are tight enough but not too tight (you can feel the bit is flexing).
- Ok so that’s the only one we’re going to change at the moment. But all the other bits are done the same way. You basically insert the number of the bit on the control and click the start button and the bit will pop down. So close the back panel up and walk around to the front of the machine.
- (Screen) From here what we want to do is come up here and if you put zero in here (make sure it is highlighted), and come down here and push the start button, and what that does is, it lifts that bit back up again.
- If you want to put “7” in here that’ll lower number seven. But if you put “0” up there, what it does is that it’ll pull all the bits back. From here, we are pretty much done. At that point you can re-calibrate.
- To re-calibrate, click on the “Calibration” tab on top of the screen and that’s going to open up the screen, it looks like that. And come down to the bottom of the screen and click the start button.
- So right now everything is doing what they are supposed to do to get back to Zero (unsure about that word). And that’s it.
