Banding Basics
This is a list of basic banding guidelines for Redline Garage and Redline Closets.
- Before starting a job, take a moment to look over the order cover sheet. Confirm the melamine is the correct color and read the banding information to determine what color and thickness is required.
- When you start a job, begin with the verticals followed by fixed shelves and adjustables last. This will lead to the customer having access to the verticals on top of the pallet to begin installation. It also puts adjustable shelves on the bottom of the pallet which is where we get alot of shipping damage. Damaged adjustable shelves don’t hinder installation.
- Drawer fronts should be ran face (sticker) down and pre-mill on.
- All skinny parts should also be run face down.
- Any small parts that received an onion skin on the router should be run face down also.
- The reason for running parts face down is the leading edge end cutter will catch the onion skin edge and chip out the material leading to us having to remake the part.
- Any part can be run face down with the exception of doors with hinge pocketing.
- When banding verticals make sure to do the ends first before the front edge so you can’t see the seam from the front.
- All parts should be placed on the cart with the banded edge facing the same direction.
- If you can look at a stack of fixed shelves and see that the 20MM cam hole is aligned with the shelves above or below it, mistakes are more likely to be seen before cleaning.
- Workspace jobs need to be separated onto trees by cabinet number. This will ensure the customer gets all the parts for that cabinet all at the same time.
- Doors that require 2MM banding must have plugs put into the 35MM holes prior to going thru the machine. If they are not in place the copy wheel controlling the position of the top trimmer will fall into the hole allowing the cutter to go into the wood.
- Doors with 0.5MM banding do not require plugs.
- 5 piece doors are to have 1MM pre-milled off the edge during all stages of banding.
- Do not pre-mill any edges more than once! If an edge needs to be banded a second time, turn off the pre-mill first.
