Procedure To Clean, QC, and Scan Banded Parts Going Onto a Pallet

In this video you will learn how to:

  1. Clean the parts before palletizing them
  2. Quality Control of the parts (not in video)
  3. Scan parts to the computer (fish bone system)

Detailed instructions below the video

Detailed Steps

  1. Clean the parts before palletizing them – The parts must be cleaned off of the cart before palletizing them. First, the part is looked over and wiped on with the cleaning agent. Make sure the edges of the part don’t have any bad spots on them. Then check the sticker on the part to know where the edge banding has been done and then palletize the part with the sticker side up.
  2. Quality Control (not in video)
    • From the edgbander operator, Like type parts should be stacked together on a cart with the edgebanding showing out.  This way it is easy to visually check to make sure the parts have the edges banded the way they are supposed to and that the banding is not short.  This is the first step in QC.
    • Next each part is checked for scrapes, scratches, loose banding, and improper banding (lip on banding, chatter on the banding, loose banding, edges not being flush, etc.  To some degree this is a judgement call but ask yourself if you were spending hard earned money on this part "would I be thrilled with the quality of this part?" If not then determine what needs to be done.
  3. Scan parts to the computer (fish bone system) – From the computer screen. Click the “Scanner Shortcut” icon and enter the username and password in the login window (everybody will have their own logins and passwords). Each job will have a paperwork associated with it. Scan the bar code above the part name on the paperwork. The job comes up on the screen. The parts of that job are then listed on the screen (part names and their quantity). Then go back and scan the bar code on each part. The first column on the screen lists the part names, the second column lists the part quantity and the third column lists the number of quantities scanned.
    • It is the responsibility of the person stacking parts on the pallet to make sure that all the parts are on the pallet.  If there are parts on the list that are not marked green it is your responsibility to either find the parts or have the parts remade.  This is imperative! We absolutely cannot have parts missing from the order.

Making sure all the parts are on the pallet and making sure the quality of the parts is excellent is critical.  You are the last line of defense!  Once the part is on the pallet know one else is looking at the part except for the customer.  You are the guy making us look great!
