Trash Bin T-Molding

Trash bin tops need to be routed and T-molded before shipping. This gives a nice finished look where the trash bin sits and helps protect that edge when changing the trash bag.

  • Start by routing a groove along the interior perimeter with a T-slot cutter making sure to stay level and centered on the material.
  • Prepare your molding by running along the inside perimeter to see how much you will need and allow a few extra inches. Cut to length.

  • Using a utility knife cut a notch out of the barbed side of the molding.
  • Find the front of the top and tap in the molding making sure to not let it bend over.
  • Follow the perimeter while inserting the molding making sure to keep it tight to the corners.

  • When you get to the end trim the molding to about an inch past the start.

  • Notch the barbed side again so you can insert the end up to the starting point.
  • Use a utility blade to cut through both ends to make a tight, straight joint.
  • Trim along the top and bottom face if necessary.
