Posting a blog post

Before you post your blog post, there are a couple things you need to do first.

Layout selection

When you are in the blog post edit, you must make sure you change the layout selection. The layout selection is on the top right-hand corner. Your options will be the following:

  • Post – left column – Makeover Guide
  • Post – left column – Slatwall
  • Post – left column – cabinet brochure
  • Post – left column – Flooring
  • You will choose one of these 4 layouts depending on what your article is about. If you write about why the best option is epoxy flooring, then you will choose the flooring layout.
  • A call to action about flooring will show up on the top of your blog post when submitting the layout.

This is an important step to take. This makes the article look well put together.

Yoast SEO premium

The Yoast SEO will allow you to make changes on what will appear when you article shows up on google search engine. You will be able to see a snippet preview of what will show in google. You want to edit that and make it attractive and easy to read so more readers can click on our link. So, edit the snippet.

SEO title: This will automatically fill in for default of whatever you put as your article title. The only thing you have to do is delete SITE TITLE & SEPARATOR

Slug: This is what your URL is going to be. You will put the keyword you were given. For example, my key word is garage tool storage so for my slug I will put garage-tool-storage.

Meta description: You want to make sure you put the meta description you wrote at the beginning of this guide.

*All the lines have to show green. This is an indication that yoast that everything is good.

Readability Analysis: Yoast “reads” your article and tell you what needs to be changed or what is good. Always come back to this and make changes accordingly. This is a tricky thing to nail on, so it will take some time to get it to a green light.

Focus key word: You will type in the key phrase of the article. Ignore the synonym part. Under focus keyword, it gives you an analysis result as well. Look at it and see what needs to be changed. This has to be a green light as well.

Excerpt: Fill this in with the excerpt you have from the beginning of this guide.

Social media tab: Underneath the stop light there is a a social tab.

Make sure that the facebook post looks good and that the picture is in the post.

Categories:

This will determine what part of the website the blog post will appear on. There are 3 categories you have to be aware of.

  • Garage storage ideas:
  • Garage storage systems
  • Features

This is all based in your key word. Double check under what category your keyword is in under the mind map.

Every blog post will have to be in features. Features means it will be promoted on Facebook. We want all our posts to be promoted.

Since you will be selecting two categories for all blog posts, you need to assign either the garage storage ideas or systems as the primary category. The features category should never be primary.

Tags: There are numerous tags that can be applied to the blog post, but you will be selecting only one of the following. This is another call to action that will appear all the way at the bottom of your blog posts. Choose the ONE according to the topic of your article.

  • GMOG: This is an abbreviation for garage makeover guide. This guide includes pictures of other clients and their work. It also shows what garagecabinets.com has to offer. Slat wall, slat wall accessories, and tips.
  • Slatwall: This has information about only slatwall. So, if your article is only about slatwall, you might want to add the tag “slatwall”
  • Flooring: Use this if you are talking about garage flooring in your blog post.
  • Catalog: This is a little brochure that talks about garagecabinets.com and a little bit about the options that they have on our website. Doesn’t explain as much as the GMOG

Featured image

This is the picture that people on facebook will see when the article is posted, and it will also show up on the categories page you selected. The featured image must be resized to 740x390 pixels. There is a template in dropbox called “FB FEATURE SIZE”. It’s a photoshop document that has the measurements already. All you have to do is drag the picture in the document and place the picture correctly. To make the picture bigger to fit the measurements, press and hold the ALT key while dragging the picture at the same time. Don’t let go of the mouse until you stop pressing ALT. To save the document just do save as” that way your picture doesn’t save to the measurement template.

All the way at the bottom of the editing page, on the right side there will be a yoast internal linking. This is telling you all the articles that you can link to that could make sense with your article. Try to link as many as you can.

After you have doubled checked all the above, it is ready to publish. After you publish the article, make sure that you go back to mind map and fill in the key word phrase into green. After you have done this, email Josh at joshmango@gmail.com. Let him know that a new article has been published.
